Sony’s as-yet unannounced PS6 is expected to have at least 24GB RAM in order to accommodate new machine learning features, the tech wizards at Digital Foundry have estimated.
Alex Batalia had the following to say when discussing the potential innards of the next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles:
I imagine that to enable the ML features of the next PlayStation, they’re going to have more RAM than they currently have, I’m assuming it’s going to be about 24 Gigs, that’s my assumption right now for something like a PS6.

Back in March, AMD marked the release of FSR4, which was trained using the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) algorithms, in a post on social media and specifically thanked Sony for its contribution to the tech as part of the Project Amethyst collaboration.
The PS6 hasn’t been officially announced by Sony yet, but former PlayStation boss Shawn Layden has predicted that it won’t be a completely discless console. Furthermore, it has been reported that the new system is likely to utilise AMD’s 3D stacked chips, and a recent collaboration between Sony and the manufacturer, Project Amethyst, has set the stage for the technology that will define the PS6.
